If you see a pup with curly hair, you can’t help but run your hand over it and feel how fluffy it is.

If you’re a dog lover, you won’t be able to resist them! So, if you’re interested in these kinds of characteristics or just searching for a furry companion, continue reading!

Among my selection of dogs with long ears and curly hair, I have listed 10 breeds that have long ears and curly hair. However, not every breed has long ears, so there is some variation among my dogs.

Cocker Spaniels and Irish Water Spaniels have ears that extend down to the tops of their shoulders, while Spinone Italianos and Otterhounds have ears that end just below their mouths.

Besides, all of the breeds have different levels of curl in their coats, so how long is long?

A Cocker Spaniel or Spinone Italiano will have a slight wave and curl, whereas a Poodle or Bedlington Terrier will have a tight curl. As the saying goes, “the choice is yours”.

The next step is to explore individual breeds based on your personal preferences. Hopefully, you will find the perfect combination in my selection.

1. Poodle

dogs with long ears and curly hair

My first choice would be the pinup breed of dogs with long ears and curly hair. For most people, the first breed they would think of is the Poodle.

A Poodle is one of the world’s most distinctive breeds due to its wide ears and thick coat of tight curls.

If you are undecided about the size of the long ear and curly hair dog you want, you can choose from three sizes of Poodle: Standard, Miniature, and Toy.

The height of Standard Poodles is 38 cm (15 inches), the height of Miniature Poodles is 38 cm (15 inches) or under, and the height of Toy Poodles is 25 cm (10 inches). You should look out for black, white, and apricot coats. Do not be fooled- Poodles are not delicate or wishy washy dogs.

This is perhaps the smartest dog breed and one of the best athletes out there. So, grab your Canine scrabble board, put on your running shoes, and get yourself a Poodle.

2. Cocker Spaniel

dogs with long ears and curly hair

From 1935 to 1953, the Cocker Spaniel was the most popular dog breed in America.

I’m also surprised by that. In the classic film Lady and the Tramp, Lady was a Cocker Spaniel. Other famous names who have fallen in love with this breed include George Clooney and Oprah Winfrey.

These large round eyes and those long ears have been known to be playful, faithful, and highly affectionate. It needs almost daily attention to remain silky and beautiful, no matter how wavy or straight it is.

Usually males weigh around 30 lbs and stand about 15 inches tall, which makes them a small dog. They make up for what they lack in physical size with physical needs. Although they love being with their owners, cocker spaniels need plenty of exercise.

3. Spinone Italiano

dogs with long ears and curly hair

The look of Spinone Italiano is very distinctive Italian heritage is obvious from the dog’s appearance. To avoid damaging the game birds that they were bred to retrieve, they have an incredibly deep mouth that is bred to be soft and gentle.

Those ears, which hang lower than their bottom jaw, contribute to that soft look. As they move through the undergrowth, their coat is more fizzy than curly, providing protection from undergrowth.

In spite of this, this loyal and obedient servant has great-looking eyebrows and a moustache. As much as they like gentle exercise, they also appreciate human companionship. These dogs were built for endurance instead of speed.

Approximately 85 pounds and 27 inches tall are the heights and weights of an adult male.

Charming dogs like these are hard to resist. They also have some heavy weapons. With long ears and a lovely curl to their coat, those adorable dark eyes go perfectly with those fantastically long ears.

In addition to their tail wagging and their ability to tilt their heads to make it seem as if they are hanging on your every word, this breed frequently makes it into the top twenty most popular dog breeds.

They are so sensitive and eager to please their owners that they even need gentle discipline. It is possible for these Spaniels to sulk for days if they feel let down and disappointed. An animal with royal blood should be expected to do no less.

They weigh about 13 to 18 pounds and stand around 12 to 13 inches tall. Their life expectancy is about 12 to 15 years.

5. Otterhounds

dogs with long ears and curly hair

Let me now talk about Otterhounds, a breed that has long ears, frizzy hair, and a remarkable fringe. Sandy (the dog Annie rescued) was played by an Otterhound named Bingo in the original 1982 film “Annie”?

It weighs up to 52 kgs or 115 lbs and stands 69 cm or 27 inches tall. Males can weigh up to 52 kg or 115 lbs. As a means of protecting fish stocks, English otterhounds were bred to hunt otters.

Two characteristics are worth mentioning. Firstly, they bark loudly and deeply. They are also water dogs with webbed feet, which is very handy when chasing an otter across a lake. Even though they can run for miles, they’re also happy to slouch around at home.

When walking a scent hound, you should be careful not to let them off the lead in case they catch a whiff of something.

6. Bolognese

Furthermore, Otterhounds are great jumpers, so make sure your garden fence is high and sturdy enough!

Despite its sweet temperament and affectionate nature, the Bolognese makes a great family dog. They enjoy being around their family members. It is also easy to train this calm dog, as it is eager to please.

There is a possibility that this pooch may suffer from separation anxiety, and despite their toy size, their coat will require grooming on a daily basis.

7. Bedlington Terrier

dogs with long ears and curly hair

I heard my dad rave about two Bedlingtons he rescued years ago. Their curly coat and long ears make them look a lot like Poodles in terms of appearance.

However, the shape of a Bedlington’s head is different from a Poodle’s, and when they move, their shape and grace shout “Whippet”!

Many of these dogs have styled coats, just like the Poodle. They also often shave their cheeks and necks in a mohawk style, leaving a pom-pom shape at the end of their ears.

Bedlington Terriers can reach a height of 43 cm or 17 inches and weigh up to 10.5 kg or 23 pounds as adults.

There is nothing better than being with your family- at home- to make them feel at home. Bedlingtons have large and fun personalities, and they are most at ease when they are with you.

It is best to place them in a family with a lot of “get up and go” because they like to be very active.

8. Irish Water Spaniel

dogs with long ears and curly hair

Their ears reach all the way to the tops of their shoulders on these Spaniels. Their only parts without curls are their faces and tails. The rest of their body is full of curls, including a “bob” of curls at the top of their heads.

Among all breeds of Spaniel, Irish Water Spaniels are the largest, standing up to 61 cm (24 inches) tall and weighing around 30 kgs (66 pounds).

In contrast to other breeds of dogs, these spaniels only have one coat colour, which is liver, a beautiful dark red. They were bred in Ireland in the early nineteenth century to retrieve shot birds from the water.

The Irish Water Spaniel is a wonderful family pet and is a great swimmer, as you would expect from a water dog.

Irish Spaniels are one of the most eager to be exercised breeds, so only consider getting one if you’re prepared to devote the necessary time.

9. Havanese

dogs with long ears and curly hair

This intelligent dog is easy to train and adapts well to apartment living thanks to its size and lack of barking. Havanese love everyone in their family, including strangers and other dogs.

As a high-energy doggo, it will require plenty of exercise and playtime each day.

10. Pumi

Pumis are small, Hungarian sheepdogs who were bred as working dogs in the 17th century. In order to curb any bad behavior, this pooch needs early training and socialization, which means they need plenty of mental and physical stimulation.

Why are some dog’s tails more curled than others?

A dog’s tail has three layers: skin, muscle, and fat. A dog’s tail is made up of many muscles, and those muscles contract and relax throughout the day. When a dog’s tail is relaxed, it looks straight; but when it contracts, it curves upwards. When a dog’s tail is curled, it is because the muscles that control the movement of the tail are not strong enough to keep the tail straight. This happens when a dog is young, old, sick, injured, or tired. It may happen after an operation, too. When a dog’s tail is curved, it doesn’t mean that the dog is lazy or disobedient. Curled tails are common among toy breeds such as Chihuahuas, Malteses, and Papillons. These dogs are known for their playful natures, and they enjoy playing fetch and tug games.

Why do long hairs sometimes grow on earlobes on the actual lobe not the ear canal?

Long hairs can grow on the earlobe because the earlobe is part of the external auditory meatus, which is the opening where sound waves enter the ear. Long hairs can also grow inside the ear canal because the outer wall of the ear canal is covered by skin.

How to stop my dog from chewing on her ears?

If your dog chews on his or her own ears, he or she could be experiencing stress. If your dog is stressed, he or she might chew on things like furniture, shoes, and even himself or herself. To help prevent your dog from chewing on his or her own paws, try using a muzzle. Muzzles restrict how much a dog can bite and chew. You should use a muzzle whenever your dog is outside or in a public place.

Why do dogs go so crazy when you blow their ears?

Blowing air into a dog’s ears helps them hear better. Dogs’ hearing is very sensitive, and they rely heavily on their sense of smell to find food and people. Blowing air into a dog’s ears increases blood flow to the inner ear, making it easier for the dog to detect sounds.

How to measure the thickness of dog hair?

The best way to determine the thickness of a dog’s fur is to take a tape measure and measure the length of the dog’s body from head to toe. The measurement should include the length of the tail, too. Next, divide the total length by two. For example, if your dog measures 10 inches (25 cm) from head to toe, then divide 10 by 2, which equals 5 inches (13 cm).

Is it true that dogs like their ears pulled?

Some dogs love having their ears pulled. Others don’t mind at all. Some dogs will only let you pull one ear while others will allow both ears to be pulled. Dogs have four sets of teeth: incisors, canine teeth, premolars, and molars. Incisor teeth are located in front of the mouth and are used for biting and tearing. Canine teeth are located behind the mouth and are used to tear flesh and bone. Premolar teeth are located between the canine teeth and the molars. Molars are located behind the last set of teeth, and they grind food into smaller pieces.
